My Favorite Book
The Book I Like Most
The Gita : The Book I Love
 Gita : My Favorite Book

Introduction

Books are, no doubt, our best friends. They are food for thought. They console us in our sorrow and make us forget the worries of life.

 My Favorite Book

Of all the books I have read, I like the Gita most. It is a holy book of the Hindus, but is universally acclaimed. It teaches us the importance of 'Karma'. It is a true guide and a never-failing friend. I love to read it every morning, It is a store house of knowledge, wisdom and virtue. It teaches me the secret of success in life. It tells me the importance of self-effort, devotion to duty and good actions. It shows me light in the dark hours of life. It gives me peace of mind and true happiness. It says, "Do your duty and let the God give you fruit for that."

 Why Favourite?

It is one of the greatest books in the world. One, who understands the Gita, understands much about this world and beyond. It sums up the whole philosophy of life and death. The popularity of the Gita is based on its philosophical teachings. Lord Krishna's message to the war-frightened Arjuna is as true today as it was in the days of the Pandavas. This book teaches us to do our duty conscientiously and be never disheartened in the face of great perils. When Arjuna was hesitating to fight his kinsmen, Lord Krishna advised him that by shirking the war, he was shirking his duty, which was a sin.

Conclusion

It has been translated into many languages. The Hindus believe that if it is read at the time of death, it brings salvation. I respect the Gita for its moral philosophy and true guidance.

Your Favorite Martyr : Bhagat Singh

Introduction-

Bhagat Singh was born on 27 September, 1907 in a Sikh family in village Banga in Lyallpur district of Punjab (present day Pakistan). His family had been actively involved in the Indian independence movement and patriotism flowed in his blood.

Childhood

As a child, Bhagat Singh was enrolled at Dayanand Anglo Vedic School in Lahore. There he came into contact with some well-known political leaders like Lala Lajpat Rai and Ras Bihari Bose. In 1919, when Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place, Bhagat Singh was barely 12 years old. The incident really disturbed him. On the next day of the tragic event, Bhagat Singh went to Jallianwala Bagh and collected soil from the spot, and kept it as a memento for the rest of his life.

At the age of 14

he was one of those who welcomed. protestors against the killing of a large number of unarmed people at Gurudwara Nankana Sahib on 20th February, 1921. He also participated actively in the Mahatma Gandhi led. Non-Cooperation Movement in 1921 against the British rule.. When Bapu suspended the movement in 1922, Bhagat Singh was greatly disappointed and realised that armed revolution was the only practical way of winning freedom.
Bhagat Singh joined the Young Revolutionary Movement and began to advocate for the violent overthrow of the British from India.

In 1923,

he joined National College in Lahore, founded by Lala Lajpat Rai. There he met revolutionaries such as Bhagwat Charan, Sukhdev and others. In 1926, he formed the Indian Nationalist Youth Organisation or 'Naujawan Bharat Sabha'. In 1928, he attended a meeting of revolutionaries in Delhi and came into contact with Chandrashekhar Azad. The two formed 'Hindustan Samajwadi Prajatantra Sangha'.

In 1928

the British Government set-up the Simon Commission to report on the political situation in India. The Indian political parties boycotted the commission for it did not have a single Indian on its panel. While protesting against the Simon Commission, Lala Lajpat Rai was brutally 'lathicharged' and some days later died of a heart attack, which was thought to have been triggered by the shock of the incident. Bhagat Singh was determined to avenge his mentor's death by shooting the British official responsible for the killing, Deputy Inspector General Scott. He shot down Assistant Superintendent Saunders instead, mistaking him for Scott. He, later fled Lahore to escape arrest.

On 8th April, 1929

Bhagat Singh along with his accomplice Batukeshwar Dutt threw two bombs in Central Assembly Hall while it was in session, shouting slogans of Inquilab Zindabad'. They were then arrested. In jail, he went on hunger strike to protest the inhuman treatment meted out to Indian political prisoners. In 1930, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were awarded death sentence by a special tribunal.

There are various memorials and museums constructed in the memory of the legendary hero, including an 18 foot tall statue of him in the Parliament of India. The life and struggle of Bhagat Singh continues to inspire the young of India till today.

He was voted the 'Greatest Indian' in a poll by the magazine India Today in 2008, ahead of Bose and Gandhi. Besides this, several films have been made capturing his life and heroic struggle. To conclude, Bhagat Singh is a national here that refuses to fade away from the memory of the genuine patriots of the country.

.Despite numerous appeals by political leaders of India, Bhagat Singh and his associates were hanged in the early hours of 23rd March, 1931. Bhagat Singh's death inspired thousands of youth to assist in the freedom struggle. Why and How the Earth should be Protected from Pollutants

Or Pollution
Or Environmental Pollution Or Our Attitude towards Nature
Or Pollution in Metropolitan Cities
Or Pollution Control

Introduction-

Environment is the surrounding of an organism. This environment in which an organism lives is made up of various elements like air, water, land etc. Any kind of undesirable and unwanted change in the proportions of these elements can be termed as pollution.

Causes of Pollution-

The poisonous water and waste product of the factories mingle with the water bodies and poison them. Resultantly, the aquatic life gets affected. The water is rendered useless which can neither be used for drinking nor for washing. This also results in the reduction of the area of water bodies. Such a situation arises when non-degradable products are dumped on fallow land or on the banks of rivers and sea shores.

Harmful Effects-

Waste materials such as plastics, polythene, bottles etc cause land pollution and render soil infertile. Moreover, dumping of dead bodies of men and animals, washing of clothes and utensils add to the problem. Another major problem of pollution is the air that we breathe in, is being polluted by the smoke pouring out of chimneys and automobiles. No doubt, air pollution takes place even by volcanoes, cyclones, forest fires etc. but human activities are more responsible for causing air pollution. Gases like CO₂, CO, SO₂ are emitted, which mix with air and cause great harm to the human body, flora and fauna.

Prevention

Use of organic manures should be encouraged instead of chemical fertilisers to prevent soil pollution. Planting of trees should be encouraged and cutting down of green trees should be strictly checked. Unleaded petrol should be used in vehicles. Industries should have proper emission systems and should conform to the laws in order to ensure safety of the people living in residential areas around. Strict laws should be legislated and enforced regarding the keeping of our sea shores and river banks clean.

Conclusion

The government should also try to educate people about various kinds of pollution and create public awareness. People should be involved in helping to reduce and control pollution. Until, we all get serious and resolve to make our planet a better place to live in, humanity stands amidst grave danger of perishing and being destroyed due to the severe and increasing problem of pollution.
