A Pilgrimage
Introduction- A pilgrimage is a journey to a holy place for Introduction a religious reason. A pilgrimage may be one person or a whole community travelling to perform a ritual together at a holy place. The important thing is that it is a journey to a religious place. It is not obligatory to go on a pilgrimage.
Place of Visit- Most of the important places of pilgrimage in India are located along the banks of the great rivers like the Ganges, Brahmaputra, Godavari and Kaveri. Last year, I went to such a pilgrimage with my parents to Varanasi.
Description Certain important sites are well-known throughout India and attract hundreds of thousands of pilgrims annually and the most significant is Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on the North bank of the Ganga. It is sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, and Jainis, who flock to the Ghats, or steps, leading from temples down to the banks of the sacred Ganga in their search for an auspicious site for death, cremation, or immersion of ashes. The pilgrims generally keep fasting and travel on foot in groups in the process of getting to their destination. They sing devotional songs throughout the way. On arrival at pilgrimage sites, they often make contacts with priests who instruct them to do their rituals.
Conclusion We must reap great fruits out of pilgrimages. It is indeed very heartening. Our meditation should fructify in our realisation that our prayers fasting, visit to places of worship or places of pilgrimage are meaning if they do not awaken us to the need of others, specifically the poor deserving.
